UP Film Center screenings resume for Cinemalaya Netpac Films [Setyembre 2010]
August 31, 2010The UP Film Institute presents the final leg of its ongoing series for the showcase of Cinemalaya Netpac films with TJ Trinidad’s MKAK; Mes de Guzman’s Ang Mundo sa Panahon ng Yelo; Khavn de la Cruz’ The Trial of Mister Serapio and Arnel Mardoquio’s Sheika. Netpac stands for Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema. The first leg of the film series spanned the month of August with Adolf Alix’s Muli; Joven Tan’s Magdamag and John Torres’ Ang Ninanais.
TJ Trinidad’s MKAK (short for “Mga Kahihinatnan ng Aking Kabalbalan”) about a lawyer wrongly diagnosed as HIV-positive screens this Thursday, 2 September 2010, at 7 p.m. The film is the directing debut of the popular actor who also penned its screenplay.
Mes de Guzman’s Ang Mundo sa Panahon ng Yelo (Ice Is the Earth) – the story of two brothers orphaned at a young age in a southern island – is set for September 8 Wednesday 7 p.m.
Khavn de la Cruz presents his screen adaptation of Paul Dumol’s classic play as The Trial of Mister Serapio unreels on September 16 Thursday 7 p.m. The film – as based on the celebrated one-act play – centers on a beggar on trial for taking an orphan girl under his wing. The fitting finale for the film series is the winner of this year’s Cinemalaya Netpac Prize,
Arnel Mardoquio’s Sheika slated on September 21 Tuesday. The dramatic film revolves around a woman ravaged by war in Mindanao.
The rundown of the screening schedule for the featured films in the series is as follows:
